Signode, a leading global manufacturer of a broad spectrum of packaging consumables, tools, software and equipment to optimize end-of-line packaging operations and protect products in transit, is pleased to announce that its Signode Denmark manufacturing facility in Noerresundby is now 100% wind-powered.
 
The wind-power agreement with Scanenergi, a Denmark-based power trading and energy management company, began in early 2021.  Signode Denmark manufactures its Bates Cargo-Pak brand of inflatable paper airbags at the Noerresundby site. Bates Cargo-Pak airbags are recyclable and used for a variety of cargo protection applications.
 
“Our ambitious sustainability goals are going to be met through the steady application of improved processes and on-going investments across the globe,” says Peter Eggertsen, Environment Health & Safety Director, Signode Europe. “Signode Denmark’s use of renewable energy, which replaces energy from a coal-generated power plant, is the latest example of how we are living up to our commitments.”
 
Based on its 2020 energy usage, the Noerresundby site’s conversion to renewable sourcing will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 356 metric tons per year, equivalent to removing 77 cars from the road.

Signode is the transit packaging division of Crown Holdings, which announced its Twentyby30 sustainability program in 2020. The program outlines 20 measurable environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals to be completed by 2030 or sooner. Under its Climate Action plan, the company is committed to reducing absolute GHG emissions from its supply chain by 16% and source 60% renewable electricity by 2030.

The Twentyby30 program’s GHG emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement.
